Grab PH urges LTFRB to open more TNVS slots

Grab Philippines

Grab Philippines is asking the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to open up more slots for transportation network vehicle services (TNVS) applicants.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is Grab Philippines' reason in asking the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to add more TNVS slots?

The transport network company made the request to address the increasing demand for transportation.
  • When did the LTFRB open the new slots for TNVS applicants?

According to Grab Philippines, the LTFRB opened 8,000 slots for TNVS applicants last April 12.
  • In a statement, the leading transport network company said that while the government agency provided up to nearly 8,000 openings, it is still not enough to meet the increasing transport requirements.

“While these additional TNVS slots are not enough to meet the increasing demand for GrabCar, Grab continues to work with the LTFRB to add more TNVS slots to better serve the needs of the riding public,” Grab Philippines shared.

Further, Grab Philippines noted that the TNVS supply is determined and controlled by the LTFRB being the chief regulator. “Even if Grab wanted to accept new driver-partners to meet the increasing demand, only those vehicles licensed by the LTFRB are allowed to be on the platform,” the firm explained.

According to Grab Philippines, it received information last April 12 that the government agency will open the aforementioned number of slots for TNVS on April 18 via the TNVS online portal.

“As soon as the LTFRB TNVS online portal is ready to accept TNVS driver sign-ups, we expect additional TNVS drivers to be on the road in two to three months’ time after completing the LTFRB-mandated onboarding procedures.”
