On that note, many owners pay careful attention to the experience they get behind the wheel. Depending on how you want to enjoy your ride, here are some considerations you might want to make whether to choose stock or aftermarket bucket seats.

Stock car seats

Stock car seats have been developed by various manufacturers to provide drivers the ideal driving feel. They usually provide ample cushioning with decent bolstering enough to keep a person comfortable on both short and long drives.

The typical stock seat can be finished in either fabric, leather, or sometimes a combination of both.

It will have a good headrest and have adjustable features that will allow drivers to get the ideal reach on the steering wheel and pedals. Some may even have boosting capabilities to increase the height for an optimal view of the road ahead.

Likewise, stock car seats care about the placement of the seatbelts to adhere to the safety requirements and complement the safety features of the vehicle.

Overall, stock seats can sometimes look dull, but some do stand out.

Take the Mitsubishi Mirage Asti seats for example. They come standard from the factory but have a good-looking design similar to the confetti seats produced by the automotive aftermarket company Recaro.

Aftermarket bucket seats

The abovementioned companies specialize in building aftermarket bucket seats that not only add sportiness to one’s car but also improve its performance by cutting weight and adding the necessary bolstering to keep the driver snug in fast-paced driving conditions.

On that note, aftermarket bucket seats typically use lighter materials such as carbon fiber composites. The downside is that they might not be as comfortable as regular car seats as cushioning might be reduced to save weight. With that said, these seats are often finished in sporty suede or cloth.

There will also be little to no adjustment features, although driving posture is still considered correct.

One will also need to consider installing four-point harnesses or five-point seatbelts since aftermarket bucket seats will not be compatible with the regular three-point seatbelts a stock car will have.

A stock car seat is designed and engineered valuing comfort and convenience first. They are best installed for daily drivers as well as vehicles used for long trips during the weekend.

One can enjoy a relaxing drive using these seats as some even come with technologies intended for such purposes, like Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats.

Meanwhile, an aftermarket bucket seat will evoke a spirited and exciting feel thanks to its stiff seating and lighter weight. Moreover, it will require one to wear race-spec seatbelts, which will add to the feeling of sportiness on a road car.
