The leadership of the Ayala-backed Kia Philippines said that they are set to tap the young market even more with the forthcoming Stonic subcompact crossover.

During the virtual roundtable meeting, Kia President Marketing Director Franz Decloedt claimed that their latest campaign gears more toward the young.

For his part, Kia Philippines Product Strategy and Planning Director Josh Altarejos said that such is the case after they have observed in the past few years, the trend in the local market has shifted to subcompact SUVs priced at around P1 million.

“We would also be under the consideration of other adjacent market such as the subcompact sedan,” he said.

He also cited that the 2021 Kia Stonic is positioned between the Rio (which has a price range of P850,000- P915,000) and Seltos (pegged at P1.048 million to P1.485 million).

To note, those in the market for a new vehicle may want to consider the 2021 Kia Stonic as it is being offered at an introductory price of P675,000 for the entry-level variant  (LX five-speed MT), P785,000 for the middle-range (LX six-speed AT) and P875,000 for the top-grade (EX six-speed AT)—a special pre-launch price that will be accorded to those who will reserve the car until the launch on October 15.

Aside from that, Kia President Manny Aligada explained that the introduction of new vehicles, specifically the Seltos and the Stonic, is yielding towards the younger spectrum is about tapping a new market.

According to him, they already have representations for the older market.

Also, they seem to target the younger market as their upcoming vehicle wears a modern aggressive design—starting from its signature tiger nose grille—which is far different from the usual vehicle designs, helping them stand out on the road. The pattern, which is similar in all Kia vehicles, was the brainchild of their chief designer Peter Schreyer.

The flagship color of Flash Yellow—as well as five other hues that will be available for the 2021 Kia Stonic, is set to cater to the taste of the young buyers.

From the base variant up to the top-of-the-line, the 2021 Kia Stonic is fitted with the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system—compatible for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay—mated to six audio speakers.

To be available this October 15, the 2021, the Stonic is equipped with a 1.4 dual CVVT engine paired with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission; meaning it is eyed to meet the demands of urban dwelling.

Space is meant for the daily commute as the 2021 Kia Stonic, which has proven its success in other parts of the globe, stands 4,100mm long, 1,735mm wide and 1,532mm high with a 2,570 wheelbase. If the rear seats stand upright, the back stowage can still accommodate 325 liters, so grocery hauls are not problem—more so when folded flatly.

Considering also the pre-launch pricing of the new model offering, they are eyeing to take a piece of the automotive sales pie, as the look forward for it to be their next game-changer.

Further, Aligada reminded that just like the other members in their lineup, the Stonic is retailed with up to five-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty and a 24/7 Roadside Assistance free for five years that covers Emergency Towing, Personal Assistance, Minor Onsite Repair, Medical Assistance and Information Service.

Earlier, Aligada told Carmudi Philippines that the Stonic has the potential to hold 20 percent of Kia's overall sales volume, along with the volume increase, making it potentially one of their three best-selling units in their stable.

“But the pie will surely grow bigger,” Aligada told Carmudi Philippines
