Kia Wins Big Time at 2018 Red Dot Awards

Kia scores high in this year's Red Dot Awards, scooping up a total of three prestigious design prizes this time around. This latest triple triumph gives the Korean car brand a total of 21 Red Dot wins in all since the Kia Soul became the brand's first winner in 2009.

The new Stinger fastback sedan, Stonic compact crossover and the third-gen Picanto city car were the big winners for Kia from the German-based international design prize giving body. The Stinger in particular, received the 'Best of the Best' award, with the Red Dot judges praising the car for its bold and innovative design.

The trifecta win follows Kia's triple iF Design Award earlier this year, where the same three cars were each awarded prizes in the 'Product Design' category.

The Stinger, Kia's biggest winner this year, was designed at the brand's European design center in Frankfurt, Germany. With its gran turismo styling and an interior that marries spaciousness with upscale features, the car clearly harkens back to the classic grand tourers of the 70s. A muscular 'Coke bottle' shape down its flanks and stylish fastback curves immediately showcase the car's rear-wheel focused power delivery.

Also designed in Frankfurt, Kia’s debut compact crossover, the Stonic boasts an elevated seating position and practical SUV format for a better view of the road. The car also offers buyers a wide array of two-tone exterior paint and interior color options, making it the most customizable Kia ever made.

The third-gen Picanto is the smallest car in Kia’s lineup, but whatever it lacks in size, it makes up for in youthfulness and energy. A new design, updated cabin tech, and generous interior space makes the Picanto one of the smartest cars in its class despite its compact dimensions.
