LTO lifts license plate production suspension

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ordered the lifting of its previous memorandum, which suspends the production of license plates.

In a recent memorandum, the agency also instructed all designated offices to accept and process the application of Optional Motor Vehicle Special Plates (OMVSP) of an interested applicant.

To recall, the LTO issued a directive last March to temporarily suspend the number plate production due to depleting stocks. However, the agency continued making license plates for vintage, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

Relatedly, the agency earlier shared that it is planning to tap shopping malls to make license plate distribution easier.

In other developments, the  LTO also stated that it can complete its license card and motor vehicle plate backlogs within the year. 

As for the OMVSP or vanity plate production, the agency appears to be ready for the acceptance of such requests since it stated that it is even open to the idea of providing electric vehicles with special number plates to encourage Filipino car buyers to switch to a greener means of mobility.
