Mazda Bags Most 2020 IIHS "Top Safety Pick+" Awards Among Car Makers

Good news to all Mazda fans (and owners) in the Philippines. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) just announced that they awarded Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, Mazda6, CX-3, and CX-5 vehicles the 2020 Top Safety Pick+ award. Meanwhile, Mazda CX-5 earned the highest possible rating from the IIHS, with Mazda CX-9 Crossover also earning an additional TOP SAFETY PICK for 2020 Model Year (MY) when fitted with specific headlights.

“We are proud to be the top 2020 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award recipient. It’s a big accomplishment and stems from our commitment to our owners,” said Mazda President Jeff Guyton. “Always keeping our customers in mind, Mazda is dedicated to providing the most advanced safety technologies, giving our customers a more enjoyable and confident driving experience.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization that aims to reduce the number of losses, deaths, injuries, and property damages from motor vehicle crashes. IIHS evaluates two aspects of crashworthiness: how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash — and crash avoidance and mitigation — technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity.

The 2020 Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards (highest-possible safety rating) are given by IIHS to vehicles that earn good to exceptional ratings in the Institute's six crashworthiness evaluations: moderate overlap front, driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints & seats.

Mazda's Safety Philosophy

Mazda's safety philosophy, which guides the research and development of safety technologies, is based on understanding, respecting and trusting the driver.

Recognizing the potential hazards on the road, exercising good judgment when driving, and operating the vehicle in the proper way are essential components needed for safety driving. Mazda aims to support these functions by offering a range of technologies that help to prevent or lessen damages resulting from an accident through Mazda's i-Activesense.

Some of the safety technologies included in i-ActiveSense include Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning, Smart Brake Support, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning System with Lane-Keep Assist, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Control, Adaptive Front-Lighting System, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
