Mitsubishi Motors reveals 2021 production, sales, export figures

Last year, Mitsubishi Motors had its fair share of highs and lows as reflected in the company’s 2021 production, sales, and export figures.

According to the Japanese automaker, over 439,000 cars were domestically produced in 2021. Meanwhile, overseas vehicle production in neighboring Asian countries such as China, Thailand, and Indonesia amounted to over 609,000 units.

In total, Mitsubishi Motors produced 1,049,174 units in 2021.

In 2021, Mitsubishi had its first year-on-year increase in terms of domestic production and its first year-on-year increase in terms of overseas production since 2018. Similarly, total production in 2021 saw the brand’s first year-on-year increase since 2018.

Last December, Mitsubishi saw its first monthly year-on-year decrease in nine months since March of 2021 in terms of domestic production. However, in the same period, Mitsubishi experienced its ninth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase in terms of overseas production.

In terms of sales, Mitsubishi delivered a total of 77,674 units domestically in 2021. Out of the aforementioned number, 43,144 came from the brand’s minicars.

Domestic sales in 2021 saw the company’s first year-on-year increase since 2018, however, omestic sales in December saw Mitsubishi's first monthly year-on-year decrease in five months since July 2021.

Last year, Mitsubishi exported 245,488 units, with 25,595 of them having been shipped in December.

That said, Mitsubishi’s December export figures gave the company its eighth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since April 2021 while its overall export total in 2021 saw the brand’s first year-on-year increase since 2018.

Mitsubishi exported a total of 5,189 units in Asia, 97,364 units in North America, and 49,887 units in Europe.
