A section of the Manila North Road (MNR) in San Fernando City, La Union will be closed this weekend to pave way for construction/road upgrading works, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced.

In a statement, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said that the Manila North Road (MNR) in front of the ongoing Robinsons Place mall in San Fernando City shall be closed from  Saturday (August 8) at 9:00 PM until Monday, (August 10) at 9:00 AM.

The announcement was made following a report from DPWH Regional Office 1 (DPWH Region 1).

Regional Director Ronnel Tan said that the road works is for the installation of high-density polyethylene pipes for the cross drainage. Such project, Tan said, will require road closure along the road section as part of DPWH’s construction, upgrading, and rehabilitation project along MNR.

The DPWH assured that they will place warning signs and barricades along the affected section.

With that, motorists may take alternate routes during the three-day closure.

Manila-bound motorists from Laoag City in Ilocos Norte can use San Fernando City Bypass Road (Diversion Road) to MNR; MNR to Mabini Street to Pennsylvania Avenue to MNR; and, MNR to Mabini Street to San Vicente Road to MNR.

For those going further up north to Laoag City, the following routes can be used: MNR to San Fernando City Bypass Road (Diversion Road), MNR to Pennsylvania Avenue to Mabini Street to MNR, and MNR to San Vicente Road to Mabini Street to MNR.
