More countries get to experience Lexus’ all-new RZ battery-electric vehicle (BEV) as the carmaker introduced the model in Australia.
“Lexus designers have worked to ensure the all-new RZ maintains the famous Lexus benchmarks of exceptional luxury and dynamic driving faithful to the Lexus Driving Signature,” Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas was quoted saying.
“The RZ is the right vehicle for those wanting a luxury SUV evoking the feeling of Lexus driving with the addition of a smooth and quiet battery-electric powertrain,” he added.
The Australian-market Lexus RZ BEV sport utility vehicle (SUV) is equipped with a pair of electric e-Axles that are mounted at the front and rear of the vehicle. Each e-Axle, Lexus explained, is comprised of a motor, gearing, and a power control unit. The said setup is capable of putting out 230 horsepower and 435 Newton-meters of torque.
Instant pulling power and all-wheel traction allows the Lexus RZ to sprint from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 5.3 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 160kph.
Additionally, has a compact and efficient 71.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that gives it an estimated driving range of 470 kilometers on a single charge.
The battery can be juiced up using a standard 11-kilowatt onboard charger.
The Australian-spec Lexus RZ BEV is also fitted with the brand’s DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive system that, per Lexus, constantly processes information including vehicle speed, steering angle, and G-forces to best deploy motor torque.
Further, the Lexus RZ SUV in Australia gets generous exterior appointments in the form of 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with static auto-leveling and headlight washers, LED daytime running lights, rear spoiler, rear privacy glass, and heated side mirrors and driver's side auto-dimming with auto power-folding function.
Inside, it gets NuLuxe upholstery, eight-way driver and front passenger power-adjustable seats with two-way driver lumbar adjustment, a 14-inch multimedia display, a 10-speaker Panasonic audio system with DAB+ digital radio, wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, five USB-C ports, a wireless phone charger, and a smart key card.
In Australia, the Lexus RZ BEV is sold in three variants: 450e Luxury, 450e Sports Luxury, and 450e Sports Luxury with a two-tone finish. They are priced at AUD$123,000 (around P4.552 million), AUD$135,000 (approximately P4.996 million), and AUD$139,200 (roughly P5.151 million), respectively.
To note, the Lexus RZ BEV was released in the Philippines before it made its way to the Land Down Under. Here, it is sold in a single variant with a base price of P4.828 million.
