MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos, who led the ceremonial switching on of the new traffic lights, said that these are to address possible traffic concerns as the holiday season approaches.

"We are gearing toward this holiday season. Hence, we have installed traffic signal lights on the said areas to improve road safety, pedestrian movement as well as reduced travel time. It is operational 24/7," Abalos stressed.

“Also, I thank Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte for being our partner, especially on traffic management initiatives,” he added.

Following this installation, Abalos said that the agency will reduce the number of traffic enforcers manning the area.

“Currently, we have eight personnel deployed on the said areas. We will deploy our personnel to other strategic locations along the major thoroughfares to man the traffic,” he explained.

For his part, Quezon City Assistant Administrator Alberto Kimpo — who was also present at the inauguration — expressed gratitude to the MMDA for the project, saying that it would benefit motorists.

Earlier, light vehicles were the only vehicles allowed to make a u-turn at EDSA-QC Academy while the U-turn slot near Dario Bridge was opened for emergency and government-marked vehicles only, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
