Nissan Navara: Comparing the pre- and post-facelift versions

2021 Nissan Navara

The Nissan Navara is the Japanese automaker’s entry to the local pickup truck segment. The current get Navara was launched back in 2015 and in March of this year, Nissan gave the Philippine-spec pickup truck a facelift.

Interested to find out just how much of a change this recent refresh had on the nameplate? Read on to find out.

1. A more aggressive look

We’re not saying that the pre-facelift Navara did not look good, it just wasn’t that aggressive. Like most of the design cues from Nissan’s offering coming from the previous years, the old Navara had a lot of curves, especially at the front end.

Its range-topping variant had LED projector with LED signature lamps, DRLs, and front fog lamps that flank the dated chrome V-motion grille.

The facelifted model, on the other hand, features sharp-looking angles that make the pickup truck appear more menacing. To add to that, Nissan gave the new Navara’s upper variants quad-LED projector headlamps on top of the fog lamps and the DRLs on both sides of the redesigned radiator grille.

And if that’s not enough, the refreshed Navara offers a Pro-X variant complete with a black front grille with a black Nissan emblem, gloss black door handles, side mirrors, roof rails, and black over fenders.

2. New set of wheels

The face-lifted Navara also came with a new set of tires, available on the aforementioned Pro-X variant. The 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels were also fitted with mean-looking all-terrain tires.

The new Navara also offered 17-inch steelies, 17-inch alloys, and 18-inch alloys.

Meanwhile, the old Navara came with 15-inch steelies, 16-inch alloys, and 18-inch alloys.

3. A new steering wheel layout

While the new Nissan Navara retains the overall interior design of the pre-facelift model, Nissan had to give it a new steering wheel layout to make way for the navigation controls for the new drive-assist display.

The old steering wheel only had controls for audio, cruise control, and hands-free phone — all of which are present on the new Navara’s steering wheel.

Steering wheel materials are still the same with urethane for the lower trims and leather for the upper variants.

4. Updated car tech

As we’ve briefly covered above, the face-lifted Navara now has a high-contrast instrument panel with a seven-inch driver-assist display whereas the older model only had a monochrome display (3D TFT display on higher variants).

The infotainment system has also been updated with an eight-inch advanced touchscreen display audio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. The older Navara had a decent five-inch display audio head unit.

5. Updated safety features

Nissan also updated the active safety equipment of the new Nissan Navara. The old pickup truck’s Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology only had an around-view monitor, hill-start assist, and hill descent control.

The new Nissan Intelligent Mobility package — also found on the Pro-X variant — adds intelligent emergency braking (IEB), intelligent forward collision warning (IFCW), intelligent driver alertness, blind-spot warning (BSW), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), lane departure warning (LDA), high beam assist (HBA), and an advanced drive-assist display.

Nissan’s facelifted pickup truck is currently offered in eight variants with prices ranging from P1,026,000 to P1,746,000.
