NLEX, Hermosa LGU ink deal for road lighting program

To ensure safety and enhance the driving experience of motorists, the NLEX Corporation has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Municipality of Hermosa in Bataan for the installation of road lights and safety devices in the area.

The tollway operator will supply and install the two-kilometer stretch between the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) Dinalupihan Spur and Roman Highway in Hermosa grid-connected lamp poles with LED luminaires, directional signs, PVC bollards at the median, and metal strips on guardrails.

The agreement was signed by Hermosa Mayor Antonio Joseph Inton, Councilor and Committee Chairman on Public Utilities Floyd Tungol, NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi Bautista with First Vice President for Legal Services Atty. Joseph Marigomen.

Gracing the MOA-signing ceremony were Hermosa Vice Mayor Patrick Rellosa and members of the Sangguniang Bayan.

“Ensuring public safety is one of the topmost priorities in operating our expressways.  This was validated when NLEX became the first and only tollway company in the country to be certified under ISO 39001, or otherwise known as Road Traffic Safety Management System,” Bautista said.

Aside from safety, the company president said that the initiative will assure that the SCTEX Dinalupihan Entry will be more visible.

According to him, the company decided to use LED lights as part of the tollway operator’s sustainability programs. Bautista noted that the NLEX Corporation has been incorporating sustainable energy sources such as solar power in its daily operations since 2018.

For his part, Inton emphasized the project’s benefit.

“Ang proyektong ito ay ang magsisiguro sa kaligtasan ng publiko. Napaka-importante po ng area ng roadway lighting project dahil ito po ay root ng kaunlaran. Isa po sa dahilan at naging maunlad ang bayan ng Hermosa ay dahil po sa SCTEX Dinalupihan; ito ang nagko-connect po sa Bataan to other nearby provinces like Pampanga and Northern Luzon ("This project will ensure public safety. The roadway lighting project is very important because it is the root of development. One of the reasons why the town of Hermosa became prosperous is because of SCTEX Dinalupihan; which connects Bataan to other nearby provinces like Pampanga and Northern Luzon),” the Hermosa mayor added.
