One-off Ferrari Omolagata will bring out the car-loving boy in you

Remember your younger years when you had your bedroom filled with posters of your favorite things? Chances are, if you’re a serious car lover back then, your walls were plastered with images of fancy sports cars. Get ready to wax nostalgic of those bygone days when you lay your eyes on Ferrari’s latest client-commissioned output: the Omologata.

Based on the 812 Superfast, and finished the deep red of Rosso Magma, the Omologata represents the 10th V12 front-engined custom order for the Italian sports car maker since 2009. As an 812 Superfast offspring, the one-off likely carries a 6.5-liter V12 with 789hp and 718Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear wheels alone. Although this has not been confirmed by the carmaker.

Exterior-wise, only the windscreen and headlights are retained from the source model, and though the silhouette appear similar, every other panel is actually made unique.

Many of the Omologata’s design cues are actually homages to the Prancing Horse’s classic models. Metal parts on the steering wheel and dash are finished with the crackled paint effect associated with the great GT racers of the 1950s and 1960s as well as with Ferrari’s engine cam covers. A hammered paint design that appeared previously in icons such as the 250 LM and 250 GTO finds its way on inner door handles as well as the Ferrari F1 bridge.

To further make this model a standout, Ferrari developed a new shade of red for exterior features such as the “7” emblems and horizontal stripe that runs below the windshield. As this is a commissioned work, the “7” is likely relevant to the owner, though Ferrari did not divulge its meaning.

Inside, electric blue seats—finished in a tasteful combination of leather and Jeans Aunde fabric with 4-point racing harnesses—lend the largely black interior a pop of color. The rear quarter lights and screen are deliberately missing, making the atmosphere in the cabin decidedly retro, described by Ferrari as “reminiscent of a bygone era.”

“A fitting one-off exercise, the Omologata manages to encompass a range of subtle Ferrari signature design cues without falling into nostalgia,” Ferrari said in a statement. “Its hand-crafted aluminum bodywork is sprinkled with almost subliminal details, in a way that challenges the enthusiast to identify the various sources of inspiration that played a part into its inception.”

Ferrari didn’t say who ordered the Omologata, and all we know is that it’s a “discerning European client.” We bet our expired barangay quarantine passes that the client also had Ferrari posters as a child.
