Petron fuels local motorsports scene

Petron, one of the country’s major oil players, is working to further the motorsports scene in the Philippines.

Now more than ever, Filipinos show interest in motorsports due to the exposure of Formula 1 in Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” as well as the presence of our very own Bianca Bustamante in the Formula 1 Academy, the all women’s division of the world’s most prestigious race organization.

Seeing the growing momentum of motorsports in the country, the San Miguel Corporation-owned fuel company looks to continue to fuel the exciting Philippine motorsports scene with its Petron Motorsports program.

“Petron Motorsports is just as eager to take on these thrilling challenges as our racing legends. In every sharp turn and lap passed, Petron’s world-class products work hard to make these drivers’ exciting performances as smooth and safe as can be,” Petron wrote in a press release.

One of the racing events supported by Petron Motorsports is the Toyota Vios Cup. The highly-anticipated annual one-make race series in the country.

To note, Carbay’s own Patricia Tenorio won the Media Promotional Class of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Autocross Challenge.

Another event sponsored by Petron Motorsports is the Makabayan Racing Series, an endurance racing series that tests both the stamina of a driver and the durability of their car as teams compete to cover the greatest distance in a limited time.

The Tour de Cebu Historic Sports Car Rally is yet another example of a motorsport event supported by Petron. The only historic car rally in the country highlights the beauty and durability of pre-1972 vintage cars as they drive thousands of kilometers through some of the most breathtaking sceneries in the Philippines.

Petron also backs the Petron Philippine Motorsport Championship, a four-wheel event that features a variety of race types with different rules and mechanics, all under one roof.

The oil company also supports competition outside the circuit and race track. The Petron Philippine Overland Expedition, for example, is one of its sponsored events where teams of intrepid adventurers take their overlanding rigs to compete with other off-road enthusiasts.

Petron Motorsports is also a strong advocate of two-wheel racing. The Petron National Motorcycle Racing Championships, for instance, is a motorsports event that covers three major classes for every kind of motorcycle enthusiast: Underbone, Scooter, and Superbike.

And to harness the skills of young Filipino racers, Petron Motorsports has programs in place like the Petron Motorsports Karting Academy, which tests its prodigies’ mettle by throwing them in competitive races like the Petron Blaze 100-ROK Cup Series and the Petron Blaze 100-Rotax Max Challenge Philippines Karting Super Series.
