PH moto distributors group sales nearly hit 1-M unit mark in July

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) almost cross the one-million-unit sales mark for the first seven months of 2023.

In a statement, the group — made up of the local distributors of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki,  and Yamaha motorcycles — was able to sell 932,220 units in January-July this year. Such figures reflect a 4.6-percent rise over the 890,720 examples sold in the same period in 2022.

Following such performance, the motorcycle group said that is expecting achieve a five-percent growth rate for the remaining months of the year.

The aforementioned goal — MDPPA noted — is eyed to reach the collective sale of 1.6 million units to be rolled out to customers by the end of the year, surpassing the 1.5-million-example achievement from last year. However, the new target is lower to what the Association announced last May. Back then, the group said that it is planning to sell 1.72 million units in the full 12 months of 2023.

MDPPA noted that the 1.6-million sales projection is likely to be significantly affected by worldwide and local economic factors such as rising prices and the lingering impacts of the pandemic that include supply chain issues and a mix of rise on in-person and remote work setups.

MDPPA President Norminio Mojica said that the retail performance could potentially mirror the remaining months of the year.

“Drawing from historical trends, the months of September, October, and November have consistently exhibited heightened sales volumes, whereas the months of August and December have maintained an average profile in terms of monthly sales," he explained.
