The spruced-up version of the Suzuki Gixxer, which was launched back in 2020, expanded the motorcycle buyers’ options in the street sport bike segment.

While it continues to entice clients with its big bike appeal (minus the price tag), the same value proposition can also be found on its competitors (especially those that also came from Land of the Rising Sun).

So how does the Suzuki Gixxer Fi continue to be a good pick in the market? Here’s what we have discovered during a recent test ride.

Dimensions

The Suzuki Gixxer Fi's big bike charm comes from its commanding stature (2,050mm long, 785mm wide, and 1,030mm tall). The 780mm seat height gives riders whose height is within the normal or above the usual range can find a comfortable and confident position while riding or straddling in the middle of traffic.

The 160mm road clearance allows the rider to go over speed bumps easily while its dry weight of around 297lbs (135kg) helps in easily wiggling out of congested areas.

Aesthetics

The Suzuki Gixxer Fi’s height complements its aggressive design as shown by the athletic octagonal headlamp and seamlessly-fitted taillamp, sleek body lines, a well-endowed tank design, rear tire hugger and the dual exhaust muffler.

Adding flavor to the backbone's sporty persona are the loud Gixxer decals on its fairings that bear neon green streaks — a hue that is also found on its 17-inch wheels.

Engine

The Suzuki Gixxer Fi is equipped with a 155cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, single overhead cam, fuel-injected air-cooled engine that has the capability to deliver as much as 13.9 horses and 14Nm of torque. The rider is given more powertrain control, thanks to its five-speed manual transmission.

Throttle response is refined yet punchy, which makes it a fun-to-ride motorcycle.

Features

Fitted in the Suzuki Gixxer Fi are the large diameter front forks that assures better maneuverability, a fully digital instrument panel that displays the odometer, tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and gear indicator.

Guaranteeing the stopping power are the single disc brakes fitted on both ends of the motorcycle. The motorcycle’s suspension system (telescopic for the front and swing arm at the back) can be a bit stiff to some.

Riders would cover more roads with the Suzuki Gixxer Fi, thanks to its fuel tank’s 12-liter capacity that perfectly matches the engine’s 50 kilometers-per-liter efficiency rating.

Further, riders of the Suzuki Gixxer Fi should be fond of carrying bags as the ride does not have any compartments to brag about. The space in the underseat can only hold the vehicle manual booklet, copy of the certificate of registration and original receipt, as well as other similar documents.

Conclusion

Given that it is equipped with nearly the same features and technologies compared to its competitors in the category, the Suzuki Gixxer Fi undercuts them with its very expressive look, which will surely captivate the attention of many.  

Since a penny a saved is a penny earned, another good reason to buy the Suzuki Gixxer Fi is its pricing. The aforementioned model is  being retailed at P97,900 — slightly lower than its direct rivals in the market.
