Suzuki concludes biogas project in India

Suzuki announced that the biogas project between three parties in India has now come to a conclusion.

The said biogas project will contribute toward the realization of carbon neutrality in the country.

Per Suzuki, the parties involved are the Suzuki Research and Development Center India (a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki in India), the National Dairy Development Board, and Banas Dairy.

“Suzuki is tackling to reduce greenhouse gas in ways that suit the situations of each country and region. In India, there is expectation for biogas which is said to have high reduction effects. We will contribute toward realizing carbon neutrality through making proactive initiatives in the biogas production business,” Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki commented.

To recall, the biogas project in India is designed to make fuel for automobiles by refining methane from biogas, which is generated by fermenting cow dung.

Four biogas production plants will be in operation starting in 2025 in Banaskantha district in Gujarat.

The total investment of four plants is planned to be ₹2.3 billion (approximately P1.571 billion). Also, a biogas filling stand will be established alongside each plant, which will distribute fuel for compressed natural gas vehicles in which Maruti Suzuki holds over 70 percent market share in India.
