Suzuki unboxes 5-door Jimny, Fronx SUV in India

Suzuki recently unboxed the five-door Jimny and a new sport utility vehicle (SUV), dubbed the Fronx, in India.

According to Suzuki, its Indian arm — Maruti Suzuki India Limited — will begin selling the two models within year. Plans of exporting the five-door Jimny and the Fronx SUV to markets including Africa and Latin America are underway.

Suzuki said that the five-door Jimny will be fitted with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic.

It is a new specification, Suzuki explained, with rear doors newly installed for a five-door design and special rear seats as well as interior trims adopted in the rear space.

Production of the Suzuki Jimny in India began in 2020. The Jimny models built in India were exclusively for export. This will be the first time an Indian-built Suzuki Jimny (the five-door model) will be sold domestically.

As for the Fronx SUV, Suzuki stated that its new-genre styling gives the Fronx a strong, fluid, and an easy-to-drive compact body.

Notable features include its bold and thick front grille. Its rear styling emphasizes expansion towards the sides creating a strong presence. Also noticeable is a dynamic coupe style that slopes towards the rear, emphasizing a flowing and stretchy proportion.

In addition to the high-quality interior which makes efficient use of space, it has adopted advanced equipment such as a 360-degree view camera, head-up display, a wireless charger, and rear-seat air conditioning vents — for convenience and comfort.

Suzuki revealed that the Fronx SUV will be offered in two powertrain options: a 1.0-liter mild hybrid equipped with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic (with paddle shifters) and a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with a five-speed manual with automatic gear shift technology (AGS).
