The public works department said that concrete canals, sidewalks, and wave deflectors on both sides will also be installed in the aforementioned infrastructure.
The Tacloban City Causeway Project is aimed at providing travelers a faster, more affordable, and safer travel experience in the capital city of Leyte as well as an improved experience for those who will opt for a scenic view while driving, walking, running, or biking.
To serve as alternate for motorists coming from the city proper going to the province’s main gateway, the Tacloban City Causeway Project will be built over Cancabato Bay, with the alignment beginning at Magsaysay Boulevard, connecting Tacloban City Hall and Kataisan point of the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Barangay San Jose.
Per DPWH, travel time will be cut down to 10 minutes from the usual 45 minutes, which would result in less logistic costs, faster financial returns, and easier access to essential goods and services.
Further, the department said that the causeway — one of the priority projects in Region 8 — is engineered to endure disasters and high humidity while offering protection to nearby communities against erosive tidal movements.
Moreover, DPWH said that the Tacloban City Causeway Project has an allocated budget of P990 million in the fiscal year 2022 for its 586 meters, while the remaining portion will be covered by budget proposals for succeeding years.
