The All-New 2021 KIA Seltos Shows Teaser Ad in Super Bowl

Wikipedia

Kia Motors gave fans gave a small taste of what's in store for the 2021 KIA Seltos in Super Bowl last January 23. And their main theme?

Overcoming adversity.

Kia's commercial, which is scheduled to air in the third quarter of this year, shows a serious, focused kid entering a room filled with journalists. Once he made his way to the podium, he said: "First question." It was  followed by a reporter asking him a question: "What keeps you going out there?"

And the child's answer?

"I run for my pops, the man who sacrificed so much, I run for anyone who's ever doubted me, and for those out there living on white rice and ramen noodles. I run for those that think there's no light at the end of the tunnel. I run to show them that there is."

Honestly, his answer--and the way he said it--sounded surreal. It was like listening at a 38-year old man trapped inside an 8-year old body.

We almost want to give him a lollipop and advise him to enjoy his childhood more.

Still, we know this isn't what KIA intended the ad to be. The teaser ad is direct and compelling, and drives home an important point: "small" can indeed be terribly powerful--just like Kia Seltos.

Named after "Celtos", the son of Hercules in Greek mythology, the new 2021 Kia Seltos follows the footsteps of the highly-successful and multi-awarded Kia Telluride. And just like Telluride, Seltos also started as a concept car and made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo last February 2018.

This subcompact crossover is targeted at millennials, and was launched in the Philippines last November 2019. It has the same platform with the Hyundai Kona, although Seltos is a bit longer and lower compared to Kona. Its wheelbase is also a bit longer--around 2,600 mm to be exact.

Just because it's "compact" doesn't mean it lacks space. Get inside, and you'll soon realize that it has a huge cabin space when you pull up the rear backseats.

It offers the following safety features: Driver, Front Passenger, Front Side, and Curtain Airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Downhill Brake Control, Hill-Start Assist Control, Cruise Control, Rear Camera Display with Rear View Driving Function, and Rear Parking Distance Warning.

KIA Seltos offers three variants: Seltos LX (base), EX, and SX. It's fitted with a 2.0L Dual-CVVT Atkinson Cycle Gasoline Engine that can churn out 147-hp @ 6,200 rpm. It features an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), with Drive Mode Select, LED Headlights, LED Daytime Running Lights and Position Lamps (SX, EX), 8-inch Touchscreen Audio with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

KIA Seltos has a current price range of Php 1 million to Php 1.5 million.
