The highs and lows of the Mitsubishi L300

L300

Some say that the most simple things work the best. That bit of wisdom doesn't apply only to almost anything in life but in vehicles, too.

Consider the Mitsubishi L300, a living testament to that philosophy. After all, Mitsubishi's light commercial vehicle (LCV) is made up of three key ingredients: A cab above the front wheels, and a chassis in the rear for cargo or passengers, and a reliable engine to move things and people.

That seems to be a successful formula, as the L300 has been basically unchanged since the '80s, despite the presence of a few modern updates it has received over the years. Let's take a look at the pros that make this LCV a viable option, and cons that would make one reconsider.

Pros

Reliable and efficient engine

Moving the L300 is an updated 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine, which makes 97hp and 200Nm of torque, and is mated to a five-speed manual. The 4N14 mill's reliability has been verified by the L300's admirers

To keep up with environmentally conscious times, the engine is compliant to Euro-4 emissions standards.

Good payload capacity

Over its previous iteration, the L300's cab has been raised by 100 millimeters to provide a better vantage point for driver and passenger.

A payload of 1,215 kilograms can be carried by this truck, thanks to the stronger and safer chassis that Mitsubishi said it has fitted to the L300. Structural adhesives are said to improve chassis rigidity.

Price is right

Good news to entrepreneurs: the L300 is reasonably priced at P804,000. And given the proven reliability record, investing in this LCV will pay dividends in the long term.

Con

Spartan interior

If you're looking for a workhorse that can moonlight as personal transport, the L300 may not cut it, even with its standard AC and radio.
