Toyota 86 Yields Another Head Turner with 860 Special Edition

2017 Toyota 860 Special Edition

The 2017 Toyota 86 receives some minor cosmetic changes that make it even ‘racier’ via a limited release. Dubbed the Toyota 86 860 Special Edition, the quirky title stems from the fact that only 860 units of this edition will be manufactured for sale.

The Toyota 86 860 Special Edition arrives in two colors—Supernova Orange and Halo White. Additional exterior cues include twin black racing stripes, black aluminum spoiler, black side mirror housings, and 17-inch gunmetal wheels. Other nifty additions include LED foglights and a more aerodynamic body kit.

Sadly, performance upgrades are non-existent, as the 2.0-liter FA20 Boxer engine remains unaltered in any way.

The 86 860's FA20 engine partners with a six-speed transmission in either manual or automatic configuration. With the former, the car achieves 205 hp and 211 Nm of torque while with the latter, the flat-four engine rates at 200 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Though a tad slower, the automatic makes up for this shortcoming with paddle shifters and rev match technology.

Cabin updates

Inside, this limited-edition 86 differentiates itself with orange stitching on various cabin surfaces, including the dashboard, steering wheel, seats, door panels, sift boot, and e-brake. Electronic revisions come by way of an additional lap timer and g-meter in the gauge cluster (controllable with assigned steering wheel buttons), dual-zone climate control, push button ignition, and heated seats. All 860 Special Limited Edition models feature a 4.2-inch multimedia display that reveal vital driving information such as horsepower and torque curves, engine oil and coolant temperature, and average fuel consumption. A built-in stopwatch lets you check if you can best your previous lap record on your commute to work.

In international markets, the Toyota 86 860 Edition manual goes for a $30,040 (P1.511 million) starting price. The automatic version, on the other hand, costs $30,760 (P1.547 million) starting.
