Toyota Brings 2020 Highlander, et al., to Washington Auto Show

The Washington Auto Show (WAS) is now in full swing in the US capital state, and automotive industry movers and shakers are showing off their wares galore. Of course, you can’t expect Toyota Motor North America, the US’ bestselling auto brand, to miss the show. The Japanese car maker made its presence felt in a major way by showcasing three of its most fuel-efficient vehicles—the 2020 Toyota Highlander, 2021 Mirai, and 2021 RAV4 Prime.

The 2020 Highlander is the bestselling midsize SUV in America. Now on its fourth generation, the five-door, three-row SUV combines a bold, distinctive new design with the familiar safety, comfort, and reliability of its predecessors. Displaying functional aesthetics courtesy of the Toyota New Global Architecture, the 2020 Toyota Highlander provides its owners with greater capability, comfort and safety than ever before. Current models are powered by a choice between a powerful V6 or new-generation hybrid powertrain.

Toyota calls the 2021 RAV4 Prime as “the most powerful and quickest RAV4 ever.” A serious claim to make, and will soon be put to the test as the vehicle arrives at dealerships summer of this year. Built on the popularity of the RAV4 Hybrid, which is currently the bestselling hybrid vehicle on the North American market, the RAV4 Prime uses more powerful motor-generators, a newly developed high-capacity Lithium-Ion battery and a booster converter to deliver the most horsepower in its segment at 302 hp.

Rebooted as a premium sedan with cutting-edge design, technology and driving performance, the all-new second-generation 2021 Toyota Mirai is a guaranteed head turner at this year’s WAS. Built on Toyota’s premium rear-wheel drive platform, the vehicle debuts a dramatic yet refined coupe-inspired design with improved passenger room and comfort and uses a sustainable powertrain to meet a broad range of mobility needs with zero emissions. The second-generation Mirai starts making the dealership rounds in late 2020.

Aside from these three cars, Toyota will also display a number mobility prototypes and concepts at WAS, including the LQ Concept, the Micro-Palette, Human Support Robot and FV2 Concept.

As our own auto show season gets underway, beginning with the 2020 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) in April, hopefully, we can catch a glimpse into what Toyota envisions is to come as a leader in the mobility space.

The 2020 Washington Auto Show runs from January 24 to February 2 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC, USA.
