Toyota PH Recalls Over 10,000 Vehicles for Faulty Airbag Modules
Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling 10,256 units of the Toyota Alphard, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Vios, and Toyota Yaris for a defect with the aforementioned vehicles’ airbag inflator.
According to TMP, it is conducting a Special Service Campaign concerning the propellant of the airbag inflator for the front passenger seat which may degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures and high temperature cycling. In the event of a crash, an inflator may rupture when the air bag deploys and may cause metal fragments to pass through the air bag and into the vehicle interior at high speed, which could result to injuries–or even fatalities–to the vehicle’s occupants.
The affected models are the following:
|Brand||Model||Involved Units||Production Period|
|Toyota||Alphard||370||January 7, 2013 until December 24, 2014|
|Corolla||2,490||January 7, 2013 until October 31 ,2013|
|Vios||7,262||January 7, 2013 until June 6, 2013|
|Yaris||134||January 7, 2013 until June 28, 2013|
“With this, we will replace the airbag inflator module with a new one, at no cost to our customers,” TMP said in a statement. “Toyota Motor Philippines will contact the affected customers through official notification letters and invite them to bring their vehicles to Toyota dealers for servicing.”
