Toyota released a press statement regarding the adjustments to the automotive firm’s domestic productions for the months of June and July. The Japanese automaker issued an apology to its customers, suppliers, and other parties concerned, who have been affected by the parts shortage due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What were the causes cited by Toyota that prompted the automaker to adjust its June and July production?

Toyota cited employee absences due to a COVID-19 outbreak and parts supply issues due to equipment failure as some of the reasons why the company adjusted its June and July production target.
  • What models will be affected by the said production adjustment?

According to Toyota, models such as the Toyota GR Yaris, Corolla, Corolla Cross, RAV4, Prius, and Land Cruiser Prado will be affected by the production adjustment.
  • “We have decided to suspend operations at some of our domestic plants from June 17 (Friday) due to low attendance caused by a COVID-19 outbreak at one of our suppliers, and a shortage of parts supply caused by a production equipment defect at another supplier,” Toyota said.

“As a result of those suspensions, the number of units affected will be approximately 40,000, and the global production plan for June is revised to be approximately 750,000 units from the original plan (approx. 800,000 units). The production forecast for the fiscal year remains unchanged (approx. 9.7 million),” added Toyota.

Affected sites include Toyota’s Plants in Motomachi, Takaoka, Tsutsumi, Tahara, Miyata, Iwate, Miyagi, Fujimatsu, Inabe, and Yoshiwara. Also included is the Daihatsu Plant in Kyoto.

Nameplates affected by the suspension include the Toyota GR Yaris, Corolla, Corolla Cross, RAV4, Prius, and Land Cruiser Prado, among others.

In addition, the Aichi-based company said that the company’s July production plans — which will be announced at a later date — may be lower than its July target. However, Toyota assured its customers that it will closely examine the parts supply to minimize sudden decreases in production and continue to make every effort possible to deliver as many vehicles to its customers at the earliest date.
