One of the fastest-rising EV startups in China, WM Motor, has set its eyes on global expansion.

In a recent press release, the Baidu, Inc. and Tencent Holdings-backed automaker has announced that its affiliate — WM Motor Asia Pacific (WMAP) — will spearhead the brand’s business operations in Asia Pacific markets.

“The setting up of WMAP brings enormous trust and confidence especially on new energy vehicle products, services, and experience,” said WMAP Director and CEO Yedi Sondy.

According to the up and coming EV brand, its Jakarta-based affiliate will help bring the “future” closer to the ASEAN market with the brand bringing better EV options in the region.

WM Motor, through WMAP, targets to launch EVs in left-hand drive markets including Vietnam, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, and of course, the Philippines. The automaker says that the WM W5, its flagship EV SUV, will soon be ready to take the Philippines into the future.

The WM W5 is reportedly powered by a best-in-class proprietary battery management system with a driving range of up to 400km.

It will soon be followed, said WM Motor, with more product launches in other different growing segments in the EV platform such as sedans, MPVs, and certainly more SUVs.
