2020 Subaru XV e-Boxer Hybrid Goes on Sale in UK

Europe’s lofty carbon emissions goals are a practical assurance that they will be the primary market for all automakers when it comes to their electric and hybrid offerings. Following suit is Subaru, which now brings the 2020 Subaru XV e-Boxer to the British Isles.

The e-Boxer is the hybrid version of Subaru’s popular XV compact crossover that combines an electric motor with two of the Japanese brand’s signature tech: the Boxer engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Built on the Subaru Global Platform, the e-Boxer brings all of the XV goodness and combines it with the efficiency expected of an electrified vehicle.

Powering the e-Boxer is a 2.0-liter direct injection gasoline engine with an electric motor. The latter gets its juice from a lithium-ion battery mounted within the boot floor that permits pure electric driving at speed of up to 40 kmh.

The car also comes with Subaru’s very own EyeSight (ES) driver assist technology suite, packed with safety features such as Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Sway and Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lead Vehicle Start Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control. This tech functions optically using two stereo cameras which are mounted either side of the rear-view mirror, hence the name.

The standard-fit Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection adds Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to the mix. With these additions, the e-Boxer can effectively identify vehicles approaching from the rear, thereby improving visibility and reducing an all too common cause of car accidents on the road.

The e-Boxer differentiates itself from the rest of the XV models with its custom grille design with active shutter, low-profile roof rails, new fog lamp bezel, gloss black rear spoiler end plate, and e-Boxer badging on the wings and tailgate.

Nifty convenience features that come standard across the range include Keyless Entry and Push Button Start System, LED headlights equipped with high beam assist, privacy glass on the rear windows, dual zone air-conditioning, reversing camera, heated seats and 18-inch alloy wheels. As for options, customers can add leather seats, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, satellite navigation and sunroof by upgrading to SE Premium.

As for infotainment, the XV e-Boxer boasts has an intuitive 8-inch multifunction color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
