ADVISORY: Here’s the traffic rerouting plan for PBBM's first SONA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement a traffic rerouting scheme  in time for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s first State of the Nation Address next week.

According to MMDA Officer-in-Charge Baltazar Melgar, the agency will deploy 1,133 personnel from the Traffic Discipline Office, Road Emergency Group, Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, Flood Control, and Metrobase along Commonwealth Avenue, as well as on roads leading to and within the vicinity of the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City on July 25.

"Personnel assigned are tasked to manage both vehicular and pedestrian traffic; emergency response; clearing operations; assist in crowd control; and support the operations of the Task Force SONA 2022, Philippine National Police, National Capital Region Police Office, Quezon City Police District, Presidential Security Group, and Quezon City government to ensure a peaceful and orderly SONA," Melgar said.

At the same time, ambulances, tow trucks, fire trucks, mobile patrol units, and motorcycle units will also man designated routes and staging areas.

Further, the MMDA shall implement a zipper lane (counterflow lane) on the southbound portion of Commonwealth Avenue to give way to vehicles of government officials and guests going to the complex as needed.

Moreover, the MMDA OIC shared that the MMDA Task Force Special Operations and Anti-Colorum Unit — in coordination with the Quezon City government — shall intensify clearing operations ahead of the SONA to get rid of all road obstructions (illegally parked vehicles included) to ensure that all alternate routes are passable.

Below are the following alternate routes:

Northbound (Quezon Memorial Circle to Fairview)

• Vehicles from Elliptical Road should take North Avenue, turn right at Mindanao Avenue and turn right to Sauyo Road or take Quirino Highway, then Commonwealth Avenue to reach their destinations.

Southbound (Fairview to Quezon Memorial Circle)

• From Commonwealth Avenue, motorists could go to Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, turn left at Mindanao Avenue, then turn left at North Avenue.

Motorists on board light vehicles may take:

Northbound (Quezon Memorial Circle to Fairview via Marikina)

• From Elliptical Road (QMC), light vehicle users should turn right at Maharlika Street., left at Mayaman Street, right at Maginhawa Street, left at C.P. Garcia Avenue, right at Katipunan Ave., left at A. Bonifacio Avenue, straight to General Luna Avenue, turn right at Kambal Road, turn left at GSIS Road, left at Jones Street, right at Gen. Luna Avenue, head towards A. Mabini Street, left at Rodriguez Highway, and left at Payatas Road to reach their destinations.
• From C5 Road, motorists may turn left at Magiting Street, right at Maginhawa Street, left at Mayaman Street to Kalayaan Avenue to reach their destinations.

Meanwhile, trucks coming from C-5 along Katipunan Avenue should take Luzon Flyover then turn left at Congressional Avenue to reach their respective destinations.
