All New RWD Huracan Joins the Lambo Lineup

The entry level Lamborghini is hardly a basic car. Named after the Spanish word for “hurricane,” Lamborghini Huracan is a V10 monster. The current base model Huracan is the Huracan EVO, equipped with a 5.2 liter Naturally Aspirated V10 engine that makes 631 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The Huracan EVO can go from a complete standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, and can reach top speeds of 325 km/h. the starting price of the Huracan EVO is just a shade over $260,000 (Php 13.4 million).   But Lamborghini has decided that simply wasn’t enough, and has just recently released another Huracan: only this one is equipped with rear wheel drive.

The all new Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD uses the same 5.2 liter Naturally Aspirated V10 as its brother, but it has lost a couple horses, getting 610 hp and 560 Nm of torque. This slightly detuned engine reduces the 0-100 km/h time from 2.9 seconds to 3.3 seconds, but retains the same top speed at 325 km/h.   So why buy this car if the older one is faster?

For one, it’s much lighter. Rear wheel drive cars are simpler to build, only requiring two differentials and axles for the two rear wheels instead of building four separate parts. The transition from AWD to RWD may result in the new Huracan getting slightly worse traction, but worry not, there’s a new traction control system to take care of it. The new system is developed and calibrated specifically for the new RWD Huracan EVO, allowing the car to keep delivering torque during tight turns, avoiding decoupling like a normal traction system does. The RWD Huracan weighs 1,389 kg, 33 kg lighter than the AWD Huracan EVO.

There are also cosmetic changes that can be observed in the new Huracan, including a new front splitter, a new rear diffuser, and fins in the front intakes. The overall facelift makes the RWD Huracan EVO assume a meaner, more aggressive stance. "The Huracán EVO rear-wheel drive puts the car in the driver’s hands: the driving experience is delivered by the hardware. This car reminds the driver of Lamborghini’s pure engineering origins: the driver is at the center of the Huracán EVO RWD’s performance, with unfiltered feedback and an emotive and more engaging driving experience controlled by the pilot," says Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

The new rear wheel drive Huracan EVO is also much cheaper, starting at a suggested retail price of a little over $208,000. Expect the newest addition to the Lamborghini family in the spring of 2020.
