BYD Seal to arrive in PH?

BYD Cars Philippines is poised to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) in the country soon, which could be the Seal mid-size fastback sedan.

According to a report by Zigwheels Philippines — Carmudi Philippines’ sister platform — the local wing of the Chinese EV marque is likely to present the BYD Seagull at the upcoming Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS).

“We are going to be launching a performance vehicle under the Ocean series — a dual motor model, and it’s going to be at the EV summit on October 24 to 26,” BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Anthony Palanca was quoted as saying.

“It has dual motors, and it makes 510 horsepower and 700 Newton-meters (Nm) if I’m not mistaken,” he added.

To note, the BYD Seal is one of the vehicles that were showcased to Filipino journalists — Carmudi Philippines included — during a trip to Zhuhai, China in 2023.

BYD Seal global specs

Overseas, the BYD Seal is offered in two variants Design and Excellence AWD. The latter is fitted with an asynchronous motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous motor at the rear. Energy is drawn from an 82.5 kilowatt-hour Blade battery.

In unison, the said setup makes some 522 horsepower with 670 Nm of torque, somewhat close to the numbers provided by the BYD Cars Philippines boss.

The aforementioned numbers translate to a zero to 100-kilometer (km) acceleration of 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.

When it comes to range, the said global model can go up to 520 km on a single charge.

Notable features of the BYD Seal include a panoramic roof, a set of 19-inch wheels, leather seats, a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen, and a host of advanced driver assist features.

PEVS 2024 schedule

The PEVS 2024 is scheduled to run from October 24-26, 2024 at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.

Aside from BYD Cars Philippines, the three-day event will also host other car companies looking to showcase their offerings such as Mitsubishi, Nissan, VinFast, and Hyundai.
