Child Trapped in SUV Saved by Convicted Prisoner with Car-Theft Skills
Talk about paying your karmic debt. StarOnline.com reported that on Valentine's Day, a one-year old child who was accidentally locked inside a vehicle was rescued by no other than a convicted inmate who can break into cars.
According to the report, the child's father accidentally left the car keys in the front seat while his baby was still strapped in the car seat.
He only became aware that he left his child after he closed his car's rear door.
Meanwhile, nearby inmates, who were fixing median strips on the road while under the scrutiny of police deputies, dashed toward the father and daughter to help them with their problem.
One of the prisoners, who admitted to have 'car-theft skills,' manipulated the lock using a wire clothes hanger. He was able to open the door within minutes.
Sheriff Chris Nocco described these inmates as "low-risk offenders" and are "being rehabilitated to return to society."
The entire incident was documented and posted on the Facebook page of Shadow Lantry.
Child Left in Cars a Common Occurrence
Accidentally leaving kids in cars is not a rare incident in the U.S. The most common problem this can inflict on children is heatstroke, which has taken 120 children ages 14 and under from 1990 to 2017. According to KidsAndCars.org, a total of 836 children have died from heatstroke after being left in hot cars over the last 17 years.
Meanwhile, the Philippines considers this a violation of Senate Bill 1971 or 'An Act Providing for the Special Protection of Child Passengers in Motor Vehicles and Providing Appropriations Thereof.' The bill, among other else, prohibits adults or parents from leaving children unattended inside the vehicles.
