According to Ford Pro, its digital rearview mirror is “designed to project even in harsh weather conditions.”According to Ford Pro, the digital rearview mirror features a high-definition monitor that displays a panoramic view of the area behind the van. Through it, the Dearborn-based automotive brand explained that drivers of Ford’s commercial vans can easily spot cyclists, pedestrians, and other vehicles, even when a bulkhead, cargo, passengers, or windowless rear doors are in the way.
“Cargo van drivers often contend with an obstructed view of the area behind their vehicle. You can imagine how difficult that makes maneuvering in a crowded parking lot or city street. The Digital Rearview Mirror is an invaluable tool for delivery drivers, especially for those making multiple deliveries every day,” said Ford Vans Assistant Brand Manager Christian Kreipke.
The Ford Pro Digital Rearview Mirror for the Transit and E-Transit models is mounted on the van’s roof — right beside the vehicle’s high-mount brake lamp.
Compared to most third-party digital rearview mirrors typically installed at the lower rear end of a vehicle, having the feature mounted in this position gives drivers better visibility of what’s behind.
Further, Ford Pro said that the digital rearview mirror is “designed to project even in harsh weather conditions.”
Meanwhile, Ford Pro has not disclosed whether the feed captured by the digital rearview mirror can be remotely viewed by fleet managers through its Ford Pro Telematics and E-Telematics services, or if the firm has plans to add such a feature in the future.
The aforementioned services can help fleet managers track driving habits and monitor important vehicle maintenance milestones of compatible Ford Transit and Ford E-Transit commercial vans.
To note, Ford's local arm silently pulled the Transit model out of the local lineup. Should Ford decide to bring the Transit back, the company may consider bringing the same technology too.
