Kia has given its longest-running nameplate, the Sportage, significant changes as the South Korean carmaker unveils the SUVs 2023 year model.

Now on its fifth generation, the Kia Sportage debuts a host of new features including an available dual panoramic curved digital display and an exciting new variant that will literally take consumers to new heights.

Kia adds that most Sportage trims will now be assembled in the US — alongside the award-winning Telluride, Sorento, and K5 at Kia’s manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia.

“While Kia moves purposefully toward electrification, we are further strengthening the Sportage lineup by adding a variety of options suited for all different kinds of customers. The tremendous success formula of our current stable of SUVs has been infused into every ounce of the new Sportage, transforming it into a leader of the pack with its cutting-edge design, adventurous capability, and desirable in-car technology,” said Kia North America President and CEO Sean Yoon.

Outside, the 2023 Kia Sportage will feature a redesigned Tiger-Nose grille with new “boomerang” headlights with daytime running lights flanking each side.

In addition, the Kia Sportage will boast a strong presence with its angular fenders as well as its crisp and muscular shoulder lines.

Kia says that the fifth-generation Sportage will be taller and wider by half an inch compared to the previous generation. This translates to better legroom and better rear cargo capacity.

The 2023 Kia Sportage will also feature a futuristic driver cockpit which can be had with the aforementioned dual panoramic curved display that seamlessly connects two screens: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

Designed with the driver in mind, the upcoming SUV will have an asymmetrical console that puts the controls within the driver’s reach.

Kia also said that on the higher trims, the Kia Sportage will feature real stitching and detailed pattern on the seats that use animal-free leather.

Other interior features include coat hangers molded behind front headrests, useable seatbacks that also house USB ports, and an integrated hook for shopping bags or for organizing charging cables.

The 2023 year model will also come with standard tech features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an intuitive new touchpad with climate and audio controls, and multi-connection Bluetooth.

Available add-ons include a 360-degree surround-view monitor with 3D view, Harman Kardon premium audio system, wireless charging, and Kia Connect services with features like a Wi-Fi hotspot.

In terms of safety, Kia will pack the 2023 Sportage SUV with a host of advanced driver assistance systems such as driver attention warning (DAW), lane following assist (LFA), lane-keeping assist (LKA), forward collision avoidance (FCA), and reverse parking distance warning (PDW-R).

Other safety features will come as optional add-ons such as blind-spot collision avoidance-assist (BCA), rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist (RCCA), and navigation-based smart cruise control-curve (NSCC-C) among others.

The 2023 Kia Sportage will be built on Kia’s all-new third-generation “N3” platform.

Power will come from a 2.5-liter I-4 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Hyundai-owned automotive brand says that the new 2023 Kia Sportage will also help build Kia’s reputation in electrification, while also strengthening the brand’s commitment to building rugged and capable SUVs.

A hybrid version of the 2023 Kia Sportage will be made available soon.

The 2023 Kia Sportage is expected to go on sale in the US in the first quarter of 2022.
