Lawmaker pushes for bigger DPWH budget for 2023

A lawmaker recently sought for bigger budget allocation for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for next year.

Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman questioned the department’s planned P717.31-billion funding for 2023 following yesterday’s (Tuesday, September 20) deliberations at the plenary for the P5.268 trillion proposed national budget.

The amount is 8.7 percent lower compared to this year’s P785.24 billion approved budget.

“Alam natin yung infrastructure sa DPWH, madaling maglikha ng trabaho sa distrito, sa munisipyo at sa probinsya … Malaking bilang ng trabaho din ang nabawas sa ating kababayan dahil sa malaking slash ng budget ng DPWH (We know the infrastructure in the DPWH, it is easy to create jobs in the district, in the municipality and in the province... A large number of jobs have also been reduced for our countrymen due to the big slash of the DPWH budget),” Hataman shared.

Hataman also said that the DPWH funding could help create more job opportunities in the country that would cut down poverty incidence in the country.

He cited that his district, for one, who have experienced conflicts before, would benefit from the infrastructure projects of the DPWH.
