LTFRB approves provisional price hike for PUJ

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the provisional price hike for public utility jeepneeys to help operators and drivers with today’s skyrocketing pump prices.

Starting October 8, the fare on Traditional Public Utility Jeepneys has temporarily been increased from P12- P13. Meanwhile, the fare on Modern public utility jeepneys has temporarily been increased from P14-P15.

Operators and drivers need not post an updated tariff matrix, LTFRB explained. That’s because only the flag-down rate will be affected by the temporary increase and not the succeeding kilometers.

LTFRB also reminded PUV operators and drivers to honor the 20-percent discount for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students.

The implementation of the provisional price hike — the agency pointed out — will last only until the fuel prices continue to soar. The P5 increase requested by several transport groups is still being considered by the LTFRB.
