LTO readies facilities for ‘efficient’ MV plate distribution

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has assured that its facilities are ready for the distribution of motor vehicle license plates.

Newly installed LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza ensured the readiness of its offices to implement an efficient system for the distribution of license plates.

“Gusto natin inihahanda na natin ang kapasidad ng ating mga opisina dito, gaya sa Cebu, para pagdating ng mga plaka, dating ng mga license plates eh maganda ‘yung distribution systems natin dito (we want to prepare the capacity of our offices, like here in Cebu, so when the license plates arrive, we will have a good distribution system here),” Mendoza was quoted saying.

Mendoza pointed out that if the systems are in place, the public will not resort to seeking the services of fixers for the processing of their license plates or even cards.

“Ito isang ehemplo lang, itong lugar na ‘to, in the development of one-stop shop facilities, para ang tao di na kung saan-saan, mapapadali ‘yung ating proseso, hindi na sila kailangang humingi ng tulong sa mga fixers. Sila mismo kaya na nilang gawin (this is just one example, this area, in the development of one-stop shop facilities, so the people will not have to go to different locations, the process is simplified, they do not need to resort to seeking the help of fixers. They themselves can do it),” the LTO Chief added.

Further Mendoza noted that the agency will tap the assistance of other groups and stakeholders to hasten the release of license plates to their owners.

The target, according to the LTO boss, is to finish the distribution of the unclaimed license plates by September of this year.

In Cebu, the LTO revealed that there are around 670,000 unclaimed license plates. Some of these, the government agency stated, date back to 2018.

Mendoza said the LTO is tracing what are the possible reasons why these license plates were not claimed by their owners.

“We are studying everything, we are auditing all the documents pertaining to it, kasi we have to correct it para di na maulit (because we do not want this to happen again),” commented Mendoza.
