LTO to extend online vehicle registration renewal to PUV

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) shall extend the online vehicle renewal registration to public utility vehicles.

Such initiative followed the rollout of online registration renewal for private motor vehicles last February.

LTO Chief Jose Arturo Tugade said that the agency is in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) pertaining to the online plain renewal registration of PUV units via the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal.

"May initial meetings na po tayo sa LTFRB para magkaroon ng interconnectivity at ma-access ang mga certificate of public convenience o CPC nang sa gayon ay iyong mga may-ari ng mga PUV ay puwede na rin makapag-renew online (We have initial meetings with the LTFRB for the interconnectivity and access on the certificates of public convenience so that the owners of PUVs can also renew online)," Tugade said.  

Tugade noted that the aside from convenience to operators, the shift of the renewal of registration for PUV to online will also discourage operators from entertaining the services of fixers and eliminate non-roadworthy vehicles.

"The LTO and LTFRB must assure that the PUVs plying our roads are roadworthy units. We want to ease the burden of PUV operators when it comes to the renewal of the registration of their units," Tugade added.
