The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) sold 1.54 million units of motorcycles last year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Who are the members of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association?

The MDPPA is made up of the Philippine distributors of motorcycle brands Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.
  • What is the MDPPA's sales target for 2023?

The group is eyeing to sell 1.72 million units this 2023.
  • MDPPA President Norminio Mojica said that the figures posted by the group — which is made up of the local distributors of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha — reflected an upward trend following its 1.43 million examples turned over to customers back in 2021 and the 1,206,374 million in 2020.

The group shared that the automatic transmission motorcycles (commonly known as scooters) had the biggest share in the numbers posted by the group. The group’s entries in the aforementioned segment sold more than 900,000 units last year. Per MDPPA, the strong sales output was due to its general popularity since it is easy to use and the preferred vehicle by riders in the delivery industry. The new AT units sold this year, tallies 58 percent of the group’s total sales in 2022.

Meanwhile, business unit motorcycles (those intended for commercial use and mostly converted into tricycle units to ferry passengers or used as delivery services of small and medium scale establishments) sold a total of 334,671 units (21 percent of MDPPA’s total sales for 2022).

Further, mopeds or commuter underbone motorcycles had delivered 253,873 to buyers, which is 16 percent share of the group’s sales last year.

Moreover, the street motorcycle models had 57,941 units sold (four-percent share), while a total of 12,662 big bikes were purchased from the group last year, along with more than 1000 units of recreational off-road vehicles.

In addition, the group is eyeing to reach a collective sale of 1.72 million units for 2023 — 10 percent higher than what it achieved last year.
