Mitsubishi PH Scores a Hat Trick at 2018-19 AFPCA
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) scored a hat trick as three of its car models won at the 2018-19 Auto Focus People's Choice Awards (AFPCA).
The three Mitsubishi models that took home its respective awards were the Montero Sport, Xpander, and the Pajero. The Montero Sport was named by the public as the SUV of the Year, a title that has been held by Mitsubishi's SUV for five straight years. As such, the Montero Sport is now included in the elite Model of the Year--Hall of Fame. On the other hand, the Xpander was voted by the motoring media as the Best Design under the MPV category. The Xpander was launched during the the first quarter of 2018 and Mitsubishi said that it was received positively by the market. Speaking of which, last August 2018, Mitsubishi decided to boost the Xpander's production by 20 percent due to vehicle's demand. 
The Pajero emerged as the media's choice for Best Engine Performance in the Large SUV category. The Pajero is powered by a 3.2-liter inline-four DOHC 16-valve turbocharged and intercooled VGT diesel engine.
AFPCA is an annual awards program organized by Sunshine TV (STV) to recognize and commemorate the most preferred vehicle models of the public and media. Winners of the model of the year were determined thru a public poll and total sales of that particular model. A percentage weight factor of 80 percent was applied to total votes from the Public Poll, and 20 percent to Month-to-date Sales (January to September 2018). The official list of entries consisted of models from automotive manufacturers that are official members of Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID).
