MMDA reports increasing number of ADDA violators

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced an increasing number of motorists who were found violating the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (ADDA).

Per the agency, the total number of apprehensions as of August 15, 2023, was 341.

On that note, the MMDA issued a reminder to motorists to avoid texting or answering calls while driving to prevent vehicular accidents.

That said, many modern vehicles are now equipped with phone mirroring or other brand-specific applications that will allow drivers to answer calls and text messages hands-free.

MMDA’s announcement garnered mixed reactions from internet users with some commenting on the hefty penalty awaiting apprehended drivers while others pointing out that motorcycle riders too are often seen tapping on their phones while on the road.

Despite the abovementioned figure, the agency did not disclose how many of the 341 violators were car drivers and motorcycle riders.
