MPT South's 2022 community programs serve over 5k beneficiaries

More than 5,000 recipients benefitted from the various community programs that were conducted by the Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) for 2022.

In a statement, the toll operator of Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) said that the beneficiaries are residents, students, drivers, and pets within the host communities.

The volunteer employees under the company conducted a total of seven community programs and activities namely “Drayberks” road safety seminar; launching of Bayani ng Kalsada "Bayani Ka" Activity Book and the child safety caravan, "Alagang MPT South" Medical Mission, Love Pets Save Lives program, and "Paskong Saya Handog ng MPT South" gift giving activity.

According to MPT South, it has distributed some 3,000 relief packs to seven communities in Paranaque, Cavite, and Laguna who were razed by fire incidents and hit by severe tropical storm Paeng.

A total of 932 individuals in Barangay Aplaya, Kawit, Cavite; Barangay 183, Pasay; and Barangay Tibig, Silang, Cavite availed the free medical consultations and vitamins from the series of "Alagang MPT South Medical Mission" activities.

Further, the toll road company continues to advocate road safety by educating motorists and pedestrians and explaining to them how they can take advantage of the safety practices on the expressway. Some 474 drivers underwent the “Drayberks” seminar. Meanwhile, the MPT South shared that it has instilled road safety awareness to 160 children through the interactive and comic inspired Bayani ng Kalsada or "Bayani Ka" activity book and children’s safety caravan.

Moreover, the MPT South also took part in the Department of Education's (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela 2022 and helped with the cleaning, painting, and fixing of cabinets in classrooms of six public schools in Cavite and Laguna.

Paints, painting materials, safety vests, cleaning materials, sanitation tower, and school supplies were also given to Alapan II Elementary School, Loma Elementary School, Digman Elementary School, Molino Elementary School, Emiliano Tria Tirona Memorial National Integrated High School, and Binakayan Elementary School.

Lastly, the toll firm’s had an animal welfare program to address cases of stray animals wandering along its expressways in a more sustainable and humane solution. Partnering with Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), MPT South provided free spaying and neutering to 863 pets and conducted responsible pet ownership seminars to indigent pet owners in its communities through a "Love Pets, Save Lives" program.

"It is the first of its kind for an expressway developer to launch an animal welfare program," PAWS Executive Director Anna Cabrera was quoted as saying.

Lastly, MPT South also handed over Christmas gifts and goodies to 300 children in Silang, Cavite and Santa Rosa, Laguna under the “Paskong Saya Handog ng MPT South.”

"Mounting these kinds of activities is our way of expressing our gratitude to communities and stakeholders, especially those who reside near our expressways. We hope that through the programs we did for this year, we were able to give back to them and engage our employees in the constant care for our motorists and communities, equally important is these initiatives bring us closer to reaching our sustainability goals for progress, people and planet," MPT South Spokesperson and Assistant Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management Division Arlette Capistrano said.
