The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said that the agency is eyeing the use of malls or shopping centers as distribution points for unclaimed licensed plates.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How will the use of malls as distribution points help the agency?

Per the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the use of malls as distribution points for license plates will help their district offices from being overwhelmed by the surge of vehicle owners.
  • How does the current LTO Chief want the transactions to happen?

Per the current LTO Chief, he wants the majority of the transcations to happen online instead of walk-ins.
  • Per LTO, tapping malls to help in the distribution of motor vehicle (MV) plates can help the organization’s district offices and could prevent these branches from being overwhelmed during the distribution process.

“We are now looking at the distribution system, kausap natin ‘yung mga dealers, and malls na pwede rin silang point of distribution not necessarily our own district offices kasi baka ma-overwhelm eh (We are now looking at the distribution system, we are talking with the dealers and malls as they can also be a point of distribution not necessarily our own district offices because they might be overwhelmed),” noted LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II.

“Then we will also start the appointment system. Para ‘yung mga taong gustong kumuha ng plaka ay kailangang mag-appointment pagdating nila doon (Then we will also start the appointment system. This means that motor vehicle owners who want to collect their license plates at the mall need to set up an appointment when they get there),” he added.

Meanwhile, Mendoza also wants the majority of the transactions in the LTO to be done online in order to provide a more efficient and effective service to the public.

“We will have to shift some of our transactions from walk-in to online. Nandiyan ‘yung app eh, tumatakbo na ‘yan eh, hindi lang natin nagagamit so within this year I hope that we can shift the majority of our transactions to online appointments. Hindi ‘yung walk-in, walk-in lang ‘no (We will have to shift some of our transactions from walk-in to online. We already have the app and it’s already working, we’re just not using it so within this year I hope that we can shift the majority of our transactions to online appointments and not just through walk-ins),” Mendoza stated.
