The NLEX Corporation has started setting up a green space in the southeast quadrant of Balintawak Cloverleaf.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Why did the NLEX Corporation put up a green space in the Balintawak Cloverleaf?

The project is aimed to improve urban aesthetics as well as help reduce air pollution through greening initiatives.
  • What other initiatives were made in the aforementioned area?

The Balintawak Cloverleaf received improvements like the construction of a detention tank at the southeast area and the replacement of drainage covers at the southwest part to prevent flooding in the area.
  • According to NLEX Corporation President and General Manager Luigi Bautista, the initiative is part of the company’s efforts to improve urban aesthetics and at the same time, help reduce air pollution through greening initiatives

“Being the main junction between NLEX and EDSA, it is fitting that we maintain the safety, mobility, security, and even the aesthetics within the Balintawak Cloverleaf,” Bautista was quoted as saying.

To note, the area is surrounded by commercial establishments as well as public transportation systems.

The toll operator shared in a statement that it is in charge of maintaining the northern half of the aforementioned thoroughfare, which serves as a connecting road for Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) Balintawak, A. Bonifacio Avenue and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). The other half of the road is maintained and managed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Quezon City local government.

“We are working together with our government partners in undertaking this revitalization initiative. This is not just a one-time project as we aim to continue maintaining the area so we can provide a safe and pleasant place for the public amidst the hustle and bustle in the city,” Bautista added.

In the previous years, the Balintawak Cloverleaf has received notable improvements from the company such as the construction of a detention tank at the southeast area and the replacement of drainage covers at the southwest part to prevent flooding.

Further, the northeast and northwest sections had routine maintenance works and pavement enhancements.

Moreover, the tollway firm has been implementing various environmental programs since it started operations in 2005, which include the planting of more than 100,000 trees and the cleaning of Tullahan River to mitigate the effects of global warming and environmental imbalance.
