NLEX, EEI to renovate AFP-NOLCOM transient facility in Tarlac

NLEX-EEI-NOLCOM

The NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) Corporation and construction firm EEI (Engineering Equipment, Incorporated) Corporation will help the Armed Forces of the Philippines- Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) refurbish the latter’s transient facility at Camp Servillano Aquino in Tarlac City.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What work is included in the renovation project?

The renovation includes the replacement of roof, ceiling, column supports; refurbishment of the common kitchen; and installation of barracks and toilet cubicles.
  • How many hospital beds did the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation turn over to the Northern Luzon Command?

A total of 70 hospital beds were given to be utilized at NOLCOM’s military hospitals in Clark, Tarlac, La Union, and Isabela.
  • Recently, NLEX Corporation President and General Manager Luigi Bautista, EEI Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roberto Jose Castillo, and NOLCOM Commander Lieutenant General Ernesto Torres Jr. signed a memorandum of agreement for the aforementioned project that will provide lodging for military and civilian guests who are on official or personal travel near the command’s vicinity.

The renovation covers the replacement of roof, ceiling, column supports; refurbishment of the common kitchen; and installation of barracks and toilet cubicles.

    MPTC x AFP-NOLCOM

Aside from the facility’s renovation, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) also donated 70 hospital beds that will be utilized at NOLCOM’s military hospitals in Clark, Tarlac, La Union, and Isabela.

MPTC President and CEO Rodrigo Franco said that the expressway operations largely benefit from the soldiers who are maintaining peace and stability in their areas.  “The repair and enhancement of their transient facility is a small way of giving back and a manifestation of our intent to assist NOLCOM so they can focus on their mandate of protecting the people and the state,” Franco said.

According to him, the collaboration among NLEX, EEI, and NOLCOM is a “prime example of the public-private partnership scheme at work.”

Meanwhile, Castillo shared Franco’s sentiments. “This is not a donation but a payback to our military personnel who are sacrificing a lot and risking their lives for us,” he mentioned.

“Ang pagproteksyon ng ating bayan ay nasa kamay ng ating kasundaluhan, kailangan natin silang tulungang maging maginhawa ang kanilang buhay dahil buhay nila ang kanilang tinataya (The protection of our nation lies in the hands of our armed forces, we need to help them make their lives comfortable because they are risking theirs [to maintain peace and orderliness>),” he added.

For his part, the NOLCOM commander was grateful for the generosity of the private sector partners. “Our dream of having a world-class transient facility come into fruition and this will significantly elevate the status or readiness of our facilities and considerably boost the morale and welfare of our troops, knowing that they have a great place to stay here,” Torres said.

“Your contributions motivate us further in striving for our shared goals of creating an environment of lasting peace and development for the people of North and Central Luzon,” he articulated.
