Nürburgring-bound Subaru STI E-RA EV to use Yamaha EV power unit

In a recent press release, Yamaha announced that it will be supplying Subaru Tecnica International, Inc. (STI) with electric motor units for the Nürburgring-bound STI E-RA EV.

Yamaha, known for its motorcycles, marine products such as boats and outboard motors, and other motorized products, sometimes work on cars — like the new Lexus NX. The Iwata-based company will be leveraging the technologies and engineering it has garnered through its engine development division. According to Yamaha, the power units that will be used for the STI E-RA EV were developed to be “emotional electric engines.”

The STI E-RA is being developed by STI with the aim of gaining experience and practice in new technologies in the world of motorsport, which is making its way toward a carbon-neutral era. The E-RA, which stands for “Electric-Record Attempt,” will soon look to set a new record at the famed German circuit.
