Pioneer Truck's Speed Limiter System is Perfect for Road Speed Limiter Act

Speed Limiter

In July 2016, Republic Act 10916 or the 'Road Speed Limiter Act' lapsed into law, thereby mandating all public utility vehicles (except taxicabs and jeepneys), closed vans, cargo vehicles, tanker trucks, and shuttle services to have a system that will limit the speed of the vehicles "to secure the safety of passengers and public in general on roads and highways." And although the government has yet to issue the Act's implementing rules and regulation to make it official, Pioneer Truck Parts and Equipment is already selling speed limiter systems to some of the country's high-profile companies.

Pioneer is the local distributor of the Autokontrol brand of speed limiter, with systems that can work on modern trucks with drive-by-wire technology and older vehicles through their mechanical gearbox or carburetors and injectors.

The most obvious benefit of a speed limiter is that it restrains the driver and the vehicle from breaching a predetermined speed limit that's set by the vehicle owner, and with many on-road accidents being caused by vehicles out of control due to excessive speeding, the system is certainly a godsend when it comes to safety. Pioneer Truck's Marketing Manager Edgardo Bautista reiterates though that there are other benefits to using such a system on a vehicle.

"Since the vehicle operates at a much lower speed, you save on parts and repair because there's less wear-and-tear on the vehicle," Bautista explained. "You also save on fuel because, with the speed limiter in place, your vehicle runs much slower, improving its fuel efficiency."

While Bautista disclosed to us what major companies are now using the Autokontrol speed limiter, we've been asked not to mention them "because they (the companies) don't want their drivers to know that their trucks are now equipped with a speed limiter."

Apparently, some unscrupulous drivers who knew that their trucks were equipped with the system tried to beat it by removing it from their vehicle. However, since companies carefully monitor their fuel expenses, the ruse was soon discovered since the trucks with disabled speed limiters consumed more fuel than the trucks that have untampered systems.

With Pioneer Trucks seemingly being the only player in the local speed limiter market, it looks like it has the market cornered once the Road Speed Limiter Act's implementing rules and regulations is published.
