Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Takes Class Win, Finishes 9th Overall at 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring
In a field of 170 cars that was filled with models from Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and various other marques, one small-scale manufacturer--it only makes 325 road-legal cars per year--stood tall as it finished in ninth place overall at the end of the 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring: Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG).
Running the red #705 Glickenhaus SCG-003C--the lone car model it currently produces--the team set a 'Fastest Lap' record of eight minutes and 19.67 seconds with driver Franck Mailleux behind the wheel and even ran as high as second place overall. A race incident at 1:31 AM with driver Thomas Mutsch piloting the car required the SCG-003C to return to the pit for some much-needed repairs.
After a 16-minute repair job, the SCG-003C and Mutsch were back on track in 20th place. The team then slowly clawed its back into contention with drivers Felipe Laser and Andreas Simonsen, eventually finishing the race in ninth place overall, one of two cars in the top 10 that wasn't made by a German mamufacturer--the other one being the 10th place Kondo Racing Nissan GT-R--and the only non-SP9-class race car in the top 10.
As the lone SP-X-class entry, SCG also claimed the class win for finishing the race.
In a race that saw Dodge Viper and Ford Mustang GT entries fall by the wayside, the SCG-003C was the only American-made car to finish in the top 50, and most importantly, in a field that was supported by major manufacturers like Toyota, SCG was the only privateer manufacturer in the top 50.
The end of the race though didn't mean the SCG-003C would make its way onto the back of a flatbed truck to be transported elsewhere. Instead, the car was driven out of the track and onto the streets to make its way to the Red Bull Ring in Austria to join the parade lap of the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix this weekend on June 30.
