This is the 2020 Volkswagen Caddy

The Volkswagen Caddy doesn't get any versatile than this. The "Swiss Army knife" of urban delivery vans and family MPVs is not just a shuttle, van, family MPV, and camper is now at its fifth generation, and is finally revealed to the world by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. With over over three million have been built, the best seller has been updated from the ground up, and is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB).

The MQB offers high-tech features, such as innovative driver assistance systems; networked infotainment and digitalized control systems that literally turn the Caddy into a smartphone on wheels; and cleaner TDI engines.

'With its significant increase in space, absolute perfection in detail, new technologies and a new design dynamic, the new Caddy is making a huge leap forward,' says Sedran, VWCV CEO.

'This gives it the potential to grow Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' share in the so-called A segment of the market for urban delivery vans and compact MPVs all around the globe,' explains Heinz-Jürgen Löw, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing. The new Caddy will launch later this year.

Exterior

The Caddy's exterior has been refreshed, sporting a more athletic design. Its design conforms to the MQB platform, which has given it a more unique exterior.

Options include electric closing aids for sliding doors and tailgate, a panoramic sunroof with a huge glass area of 1.4 m2 above both the first and second rows of seats. It also has new 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and LED rear lights.

For the first time, Volkswagen will also include as standard options the Keyless Access (Kessy for short) ignition and locking system and the 'Digital Cockpit.

The new Caddy will come in three variants: Cargo (panel van with enclosed superstructure), Estate (with passenger compartment windows, and in different passsenger car variants (MPVs).

Meanwhile, the car lines' names have also been reconfigured. The base model will be renamed 'Caddy'; above this is 'Life', and the premium model will be named 'Style'.

Interior

Inside, the fifth generation boasts of more space. Its longer version--the Caddy Maxi--can accomodate up to two Euro pallets. It can also be loaded sideways in the middle and back, or sideways in the middle, and lengthways in the back. All-new infotainment systems with options of 6.5, 8.25 or 10-inch touchscreen based on MIB3 system enhance interior ambience.

Meanwhile, the interior has been updated, with the 10-inch navigation system and Digital Cockpit fused together to create a new digital landscape of controls and indicators: the Innovision Cockpit. Now, it allows you to be connected at all times, thanks to the infotainment system's online connectivity unit (OCU) with integrated eSIM.

Comfort and Convenience

The Caddy boasts of new driver assistance systems, including the first-ever Travel Assist that facilitates assisted driving across the full speed range. What's more, its redesigned steering wheel has capacitive sensors that can precisely detect even the slightest touch of your hand.

The Caddy will come in three diesel engine options and one petrol engine. The engine is also 12 percent more fuel efficient compared to the previous generation.

The Caddy will be pre-sold starting in October, with first of its deliveries expected early 2021. If you live in the Philippines, then you might have to export it from the U.K. though.
