WATCH: Should BGC and the Makati Business District Adopt the Scramble Crosswalk?

We Filipinos tend to not use the pedestrian lane when crossing the street. Some of the excuses we usually say is it takes time to cross at the designated pedestrian crossing. You need to wait for more or less a minute to be able to cross one segment to the other--when in fact you can cross the street in one go; however, this is not a safe thing to do.

Individuals who work in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and in the Makati Business District are the ones who can most relate to the said issue. Sometimes you just want to cross the street diagonally in order to reach your desired destination. We at CARMUDI PHILIPPINES can relate to this since our office is in BGC (along 32^nd Avenue to be exact). As such, we had a discussion over lunch that revolved around the idea of adopting the Scramble Crosswalk. It's a kind of pedestrian crossing that's similar to the famous Shibuya Crossing in Japan. What do you think? Should BGC and the Makati Business District--and the whole Philippines perhaps--adopt the Scramble Crosswalk? If you're going to ask me, I personally like the idea of the Scramble Crosswalk because crossing the street will be faster and safer. However, how will this affect the traffic flow especially during rush hour? Further study needs to be conducted for us to determine the effectiveness of the Scramble Crosswalk in the Philippines. But then again, I like the idea because getting to Jollibee will be easier (see main photo for reference).
