Isuzu mu-X Latest Updates
In its 7-year model life, mu-X has once again received minor updates for the 2020 model year. The changes include a new set of wheels and an updated infotainment system. Now, you can do seamless smartphone mirroring which was lacking in the outgoing model. It is also available with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Isuzu mu-X is available in four variants and a starting price of Php 1.6 million. The closest rivals of Isuzu mu-X are Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest.

The flagship offering from the Isuzu’s portfolio, the MU-X is the sole SUV from the stable of Isuzu, which takes on the established entry-level full-size SUVs in the market right now. Available in a total of six variants, the Isuzu MU-X is being offered with two diesel-powered engine options and five paint schemes – Titanium Silver, Pearl White, Obsidian Grey, Cosmic Black, and Havana Brown.
Interior & Features
The Isuzu MU-X might have received some comprehensive changes to its exterior in the last facelift it received. However, the interior cabin looks a bit outdated for it hasn’t changed much, which lacks many of the modern bits and features. The T-shaped three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel looks okay with its silver finish for the spokes and the regular looking dials for the instrument console too don’t excite much. The all-black cabin is given a slight contrast with silver bordering for the centre console, which has a T-shaped vertical design. This centre console has vertical AC vents on its upper corners and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system stacked in between them. Then below it, there is an old school looking round dial that houses the controls and display for the automatic climate control. This seven-seater SUV is high on space, and the large dimensions surely work in giving ample space for all the three rows. The cabin’s practicality is further enhanced by the presence of a number of cubbyholes and two amply sized glove boxes in the dashboard.
While the Isuzu MU-X might not look as glitzy as other SUVs in the same space, the fact that it has the traditional old school appeal with large dimensions, boxy silhouette and heightened stance, which gives it a striking road presence. The front grille of the Isuzu MU-X looks a bit blingy, for the fact that these two thick angular slat grille is bathed fully in chrome. The grille is flanked with angular headlamps, which look large with prominent U-shaped daytime running lamps and projector bulbs encased within them. The front bumper has a beefy appeal to it, thanks to the wide black finished lower portion which engulfs the fog lamps as well. The side profile of the Isuzu MU-X looks huge with large rounded wheel arches and large window panels, with wraparound design for the big quarter glass. The alloy wheels, however, look a bit old fashioned for this segment. The rear profile of the Isuzu MU-X looks a bit boring though, with the winged like tail lamps making the otherwise bland design of the boot lid a bit interesting to look at.
Ride & Handling
Built around an old school but superbly sturdy ladder on frame, the Isuzu MU-X is armed with independent double wishbone at the front and five link at the rear, with stabiliser bars at both the ends. The Isuzu MU-X has a comfortable ride quality, but however, feels bouncy at higher speeds and corners.
Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Isuzu MU-X comes with two engine options under its hood. The top-spec variant is powered by a 3.0-litre four cylinder diesel engine, which pumps out 177 PS of maximum power output and 380 Nm of peak torque output, and is coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The lower variants have been given a smaller 1.9-litre four cylinder diesel engine, which produces 150 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, and is offered with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Braking & Safety
The Isuzu MU-X does not pack in the latest of modern electronic aids, but still comes with enough of safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, brake override system, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control and reverse parking sensors with camera.
With the old school appeal in its soul, design in and out and the way it performs, the Isuzu mu-X positions itself as a quintessential conventional SUV which performs very well in its core attributes. While it might not be likeable by those who love to exhibit modernity, but it surely shines out with its sturdy mechanicals which makes it a worthy vehicle to rely on.
